31.5 Set the Lord and His Love Always Before Us (2)

Series 31

Episode 5

Prologue

Brothers and sisters, today’s topic for Treasures for the Soul is Set the Lord and His Love Always Before Us (2). David mentions in Psalm 101 that he would not set before his eyes anything that’s worthless, and a perverse heart should be far from him. He knew well which truths to set before his eyes. In this age of information, we must also learn to choose which contents to put before our eyes. When we learn to guard our mind, our spirit can reach a new level. Colossians 3 teaches us to seek the things that are above. We really need to replace wrong thoughts with good ones, so that we can win the victory and be filled with enjoyment.

Message

Let’s look at  what kind of person David was. Psalm 101:1 says “I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music.” I give thanks that we sing the “Diamond Hymns” (“Who Affects the Father the Most”, and “Love Like A Rainbow”) every day. We sing about  His love, and we sing to Him. This is very precious.

Psalm 101:2 reads, “I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house.” Each one of us needs to go home at some point. And when we are at home, it’s important that our hearts  also feel settled. We should not indulge ourselves or go loose. If you are at home, try not to be distracted by too  many things, even though we need to spend time with family. We need to keep our hearts. David walked with integrity of heart within his house.

Psalm 101:3-4 reads, “I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil.” Also, Psalm 16:8 says, “I have set the Lord always before me.” And here in Psalm 101:3 it reads “I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.” God created you with the strength to choose what to think. It’s your choice. You don’t need to dwell on the things you see with your eyes . You can turn a blind eye to  those things. When I walk, my heart is usually towards the Lord, and I  worship and talk with Him. We ought to enjoy walking, especially  walking leisurely with the Lord. Taking the bus is such a blessing as the Lord is with you. It won’t be boring. If you need to quarantine due to covid, you don’t need to feel bored. You can actually enjoy that time. That’s because the Lord is my portion. I enjoy Him and His presence . Some of you need to take online lessons, but I don’t need to go online for my lessons. Instead , I go up to the mountains. Not only that, but I can take lessons day and night. I can also take them on my bed. You can look at my journal here. It’s already journal #2111. The content includes many things He has taught me and many hymns. There are too many things to write down. I have “school” every day, I don’t have  holidays. I also wouldn’t want  to take time off. He teaches me day and night. When I brush my teeth, when I lie down, when I walk, or when I go up to the mountains, He gives me hymns. I have special classrooms: up on the mountain and on my bed. David also remembered and thought of the Lord on his bed. You can read Psalm 63 for more details

You decide what you set before your eyes. Your  cell phone can be used to help people, but you still need to be careful. I don’t use cell phones because I know it can be dangerous. Put up your hand if you’ve watched things that are not good for you on the phone. You’ve experienced it. You should not allow those things to be set before your eyes, or else it will become a habit. For myself, the Lord has been personally teaching me. When I learned  more about how to guard my mind, my spirit reached a new level. The Devil uses what you see in order to affect you. You can see full images. Advertisements or other things are all dangerous. If you want to overcome all the desires of the eyes, the pride of life, and the desires of the flesh, then you should stop watching those things. Guarding your mind is the key.

Colossians mentioned that some people in the church wanted to overcome the indulgence of the flesh through regulations. But they were not successful. They took the wrong path. Paul taught them to “seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” (Col 3:1) We need to see the Lord. He is the center of glory. The fact that this verse mentions  “Christ” has a lot of meaning ! He sits at the right hand of God because He came for me; He went through so much for us, and He won the victory! All these actions speak of so many things. And they are all related to us. He became Christ, to become a Man forever. He became our Priest, Prophet, and King. All these things are most related to us: our past, our present, and our future. Even more, He is our Beloved. He has so many names. He belongs to us. If you pay attention, you may hear Him say, “You should set your mind on all these truths about Me! That’s the only way for you to overcome the lusts of the flesh.” That’s why Paul taught us to seek the Lord, the Christ, and the things above.

I recently read Hebrews chapter 12 with you. The Lord is preparing the New Jerusalem for us. This city will give us the greatest satisfaction , and it’s God’s will accomplished. If you want to overcome things of the flesh, you can’t just rely on your own willpower. The keys to victory are  faith and love. You need to trust the Lord’s love to you and always set Him before your eyes. When you do so, , you are at the same time setting His love before your eyes. This lets you focus on  the Lord and how precious He is. This way, you can easily overcome anything  that hinders you from enjoying the Lord. If you give in to  the temptation, it will immediately stop you from enjoying  the Lord. It’s very terrible. You may be close to God and your heart may be good, but if you go watch TV or do other things that are not good, you will fall ‘from heaven back to earth’. So, your mind affects you so much. Also, the Devil will use different things to stimulate your desires and lusts. Even ads  use the same tactics. Ads  can be expensive to produce, even to sell something as ordinary as food.  Isn’t that ridiculous? To be as effective as possible an ad will present a dish in a way that makes you want to eat it. What you see can affect your whole self, and stimulate your desire and needs. That’s how the Devil tempts you.

We need to set what is good before our eyes. In Philippians 4, Paul talked about what we should set before our eyes. Whatever is true and whatever is excellent can all be found in the Lord. In fact, the Lord is beyond all these things when you think of Him. Simply put, set good things before your eyes, the things that can help your heart to be in a better condition. This is within your control. As Romans 12 mentions, we should be transformed by the renewal of our mind. In order to win the victory, we need to replace wrong thoughts with the Lord. That’s because the Devil uses what’s fake to deceive you. The only way to counter this is to use the truth. Every time you think, you’re setting things before yourself, before your heart and your eyes. Meditation is even deeper . You  let those thoughts sink into you more deeply, which lets you realize their preciousness even more.  This way, your heart can be uplifted and be affected. It’s your choice. What do you want to be completely affected by every day and every moment?

I want to give one more reminder. The Devil uses thoughts that are not good and not according to the truth to tempt you and deceive you. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. He sets the truths before your eyes. And He opens your eyes to understand and see more to what extent the Lord loves you, and how the Lord works. I’ve experienced this many times. I need the Lord to open my eyes. Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:7 to think over what he said. So, we need to set the Lord before our eyes. This will let us understand Him more, and enter and enjoy the  truths about Him. Let the truths draw your heart and lift you up. Let the truths move you to love Him and have love interflow with Him more. This is a matter of life and death!

Set the Lord and His Love Always Before Us

Message Date: 2020-06-14

The Lord is our all knowing true Beloved; He knows all our needs thoroughly. His words, His life journey, His abundance, His plan etc are all to fulfill our needs. After we have accepted the Lord, we still have many needs. He knows it all, and He has given Himself and His love to us eternally. Love is the greatest and the most important. Without Abba and the Lord’s love, we cannot live. The devil has always tried to alienante our relationship with God; in particular, he wants to make us feel that God doesn’t love us the most. We must draw near to God every day, use our hearts to pay attention to God, and enjoy Him and His love always. Only by doing so will we love Him the most.
