The Lord Speaks to Us and Helps Us in Our Hearts

Series 1

Episode 5

Prologue

Brothers and sisters, today our topic is The Lord Speaks to Us and Helps Us in Our Hearts. The Lord lives in our hearts. Our spirit is the contact point with the Lord. When we pray, we pray to the Lord in glory, and He will work in us. The Lord speaks to us in many different ways. It could be an impression, a thought, His anointing, which is the guidance by the Holy Spirit, or His mighty power working in our hearts, and so on. When we often draw near to God and know Him better, we can understand better what He wants to tell us. The Lord speaks in our hearts, opens our eyes and enlightens us. All these mould us into glorious people. We need to enjoy the Lord Himself.

Message

Today we are more blessed than the psalmist who wrote Psalm 73. At that time he was already very blessed because he experienced the Lord holding his right hand. Today we are even closer to Him because He has already come. We pray to the Lord in glory and He works in our hearts. However, we need to be clear that God is an infinite spirit. Each one of us has a spirit. He put eternity in your hearts. We were created in His image. Our contact point with God is our spirit. The Lord lives in our hearts. Christ in us has become the hope of glory. Today it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me. The Bible mentions many times that He abides in us. So, we need to be clear that when we pray, we pray to the Lord in glory, but when the Lord speaks to us, He speaks in our hearts because He lives in us. He does not shout out from the heavens like thunders. He can do it this way but in general He doesn’t. He speaks to us in our hearts. The way He speaks is different from the way people speak. I experienced many times in my life He spoke clearly to me in my heart, as if I could hear it with my ears. Many times it doesn’t come word-by-word but you know what He means. Your spirit feels peaceful. You can be clear it is from the Lord because our spirit can feel it.

Our spirit is living. How He communicates with us is different from how people communicate with each other. Even men have different ways of communication. For example, if you keep talking to someone who is deaf, it is useless. Instead, you should use sign language or body gestures. Do babies understand fully what their parents say? Don’t the parents use some gestures and sounds to communicate with them? Then slowly, the babies begin to understand. Similarly, when we draw near to God often, it becomes easier to understand what He wants to say because you are getting familiar with Him. The Lord also said His sheep listen to His voice. They will not heed to a stranger’s voice. When there are thoughts not from the Lord, you will be able to distinguish them. However, to do so, you need to know the Shepherd well. Sometimes the Lord gives us an impression.

The Bible tells us the Lord works in us in many different ways. The Apostle Paul wrote that God works mightily in us. 1 John chapter 2 mentions that we are anointed by the Holy Spirit. Through the teaching of the Holy Spirit, we abide in the Lord. The Lord said the Spirit of truth would come and lead us into all truths. Entering the truths is more than understanding them. How does the Holy Spirit guide us? The Holy Spirit lives in our hearts and helps us to understand. He guides us into the truth. He works in our hearts. Hebrews 13 says through Jesus Christ, He works in us what is pleasing in His sight. The Gospel of Matthew mentions that the Spirit of the Father is in us. In 2 Corinthians, it says, “We all with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.” (2 Cor. 3:18) The Lord is in us, which means His Spirit is in us. He is God and He is the infinite spirit. He is everywhere but His spirit abides in us. He has the deepest union and love relationship with us. His spirit is in us and transforms us to be more and more glorious.
The Lord works in us in many ways. For instance, He opens our spiritual eyes, enlightens us, and speaks to us. In Paul’s ministry, some people challenged and doubted his apostleship. “You seek proof that Christ is speaking in me.” (2 Corinthians 13:3) So, you see, when the Lord spoke to Paul, He spoke in his heart. Paul once experienced the Lord’s appearing to Him with a clear voice saying, “ Saul, Saul…,” however, it doesn’t always come in a voice. The Lord spoke to Paul in his heart. “You seek proof that Christ is speaking in me…” Christ spoke in Paul’s heart. This is how Paul understood God’s will. “He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.” ( 2 Corinthians 13:3) The Lord is mighty in us and He can change us. No matter how weak you are, when you pray, “Lord, save me,” everything changes. Don’t think that it is too simple. The whole world cannot help you to rise up again, but when you pray, “Lord save me,” immediately you receive help. It’s powerful! No matter how long you had sinned, the moment you accepted the Lord and believed in Him, He lived in you and saved you from your sins. His name is Jesus; He will save His people from their sins. No matter how many years you have sinned, as long as you sincerely ask Him to save you from your sins, He immediately saves you. Can education save you from sins? He is mighty in you! He changed Paul into such a glorious person. It’s important that we enjoy Him. You can read the New Testament and highlight the words, “working in us,” “working in our hearts.”
Many Christians have taken the wrong way to pursue the Lord; they pray to the Lord in their hearts, but we do not. We actually pray to the Lord in glory, and pray to our Father in heaven. At the same time, Abba and the Lord live in our hearts. We live before Him. His whole person lives in us and we are closely connected with Him. When we turn to Him, He will work in us and speak to us and help us in various ways. He gives life. “…In Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Cor. 15:22) It is difficult to explain life with words but you know it.

He really works in our hearts. Our hearts really need Him. Only He can win our heart. No man nor authority can truly gain our hearts. By His love and relationship with us, God has gained our heart. Worthy is the Lamb! His love touches our heart. We capture His heart and He captures ours. Now, with the understanding of the New Testament, we can sing Psalm 73. “Nevertheless, I am continually with you…” (Psalm 73:23) Here it mentions “continually with God”. When your heart is connected with the Lord, you are continually with Him. Otherwise, you are not really with Him. You are somewhere else and your heart is influenced by something else. You are not turning to Him and are not drawn by Him. Then you are not living with Him. Remember what David said in Psalm 139? “I awake, and I am still with you” (Psalm 139:18) I also hope that when I see you, you are with the Lord. God is with you but are you with Him? His heart is with you but is your heart elsewhere? This psalmist was very blessed that he was continually with God. God is with you but you may not be walking with Him. You may be walking by yourself. Is your heart walking with Him?

I hope that you understand the truth of how to look at the Lord by one glance. We are created for Him. He created us in such a way that we can look at Him. When we talk to Him, we look at Him. Our vision is wide. For example, when you go to the countryside, you can see far. To look at the Lord is the key. When you get used to looking at the Lord, it becomes very natural, as if looking at people. Today I want you to also see that your heart is joint with His when you look at Him by one glance. Whatever challenge you face, you can promptly pray, “Lord, save me!” When Peter was sinking, he cried, “Lord, save me!” The Lord could have saved Peter without grabbing his hand. However, it’s so precious the Lord held his hand to save him. This image became concrete in our mind. You may also come up with some of your own expressions to help yourself. A line of one of my songs reads, “My heart holds onto You to walk with You.” The Lord will be so delighted if we walk closely with Him. In this way, we are heart to heart with Him, enjoying His provision and love, and deepening our relationship. These days will be remembered by Him.

Being Heart to Heart with the Lord

We are in the most blessed generation ever! By the Lord’s salvation, the Holy Spirit has come, and the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit forever dwell in our hearts. However, we must enjoy this union with Him. In John 15, the Lord used the vine and the branches to express the key: to abide in the Lord, and to abide in His love. This is the true experience of our spirit: our spirit connected to Him with no barriers. We let Him touch our spirit: He in us gives us strength and life; He opens our eyes, enlightens us, speaks to us, etc, causing us to be glory upon glory. How wonderful that we are united to the Lord of infinite life! We live with Him. Psalm 73 reads, “Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.” This is indeed the experience of being heart to heart with the Lord, being touched by Him and walking with Him. In fact, we are more blessed than the saints in the Old Testament time.
